The Thames Festival

Alas the fine weather didn’t last for the various diverse events held at venues from Chelsea to The Pool. Perhaps the most bizarre was the flotilla of small steam driven craft which formed a musical event played out in The Pool of London.

A redundant red Trinity House Lightship towed by two tugs led the parade escort by two steam driven VIC craft which had musical musical machinery on board producing a cacophony of weird organ music.

Transport on Water crews manned a bevy of barges racing up the tideway propelled by ginormous sweeps

Next Year Father Thames will be celebrating two 500 year anniversaries as Trinity House and the Company of Waterman and Lightermen will be in celebration mood and of course the August arrival of a Tall Ship Fleet from Falmouth into the upper reaches of the Thames should a magnificent occasion.
